ハロ Halo

I have written a post previously about a rainbow called
the circumhorizontal arc. (rainbow)
Last month, we were able to observe an even rarer phenomenon,
when we were at the beach of Ishikawa, a prefecture along
the Sea of Japan.

We have searched what the phenomenon is called
and found out that it was Halo.
"Halo is the name for a family of optical phenomena produced by
light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere."

Encountering such rare phenomenons
mean that we are taking our time to observe and enjoy the skies
and we feel so happy and lucky for that.

6月の記事に、変わった虹「環水平アーク」の写真を載せました（虹）
今回は、もっともっとめずらしい現象、
太陽に虹のリングがかかっているのを
石川県のビーチにいた時に発見したのです！

その現象は「ハロ」と呼ぶそうで
ウィキペディアによると
「太陽や月に薄い雲がかかった際にその周囲に
光の輪が表れる大気光学現象のことである」だそうです。

こんなめずらしい現象たちに出会えるというのは
それだけ空を見上げる時間が持てているのだろうと
解釈しています。ありがたいことですね♪

七夕の町並み old town during star festival

The 38-days summer vacation for
elementary school kids is ending this weekend here in Takayama
and I've only updated my blog 6 times during the vacation.

Well, it kind of proves that I have spent my time fully
with my kids which is good, but there are lots more
I want to do with them!!

Anyways,
starting next week, I'm hoping to find more time
to update the blog.

For today, I'm putting up the photos of
the old town during the "tanabata, a star festival"
which is celebrated on the 7th of July commonly,
but here, on the 7th of August!!

The bamboo decorations are displayed along the street
only for 3 days!!  Aren't they beautiful?

高山の夏休みが間もなく終わろうとしています。
夏休み中、ブログの更新がたったの６回、
ということが判明、、、

それだけ、キッズと向き合って過ごせた、
ということにしておきましょう　笑

今後は少しずつ夏休み中のことなども含め
更新頻度を上げられたらな、と考えています。

今日は
古い町並みの七夕の写真を載せたいと思います。
この七夕飾り、たったの３日間で終了してしまいます。
そんな貴重な時に町並みを歩くことができるなんて
贅沢だなぁ。

郡上八幡 2 Gujo Hachiman 2

Last year, we bought our "geta (Japanese sandals)"
in Gujo Hachiman!!

This summer, we visited the town again, this time with our kids!!

Whenever we travel with our kids,
their attention go to different things,
such as, they are deeply in love with
"mizu-manju," a Japanese summer confectionery with sweet red bean paste,
they also tried the cutest jelly placed inside a tiny balloon.

We burst the balloon open when eating it.
How cute!!

Also, we loved walking in the cool and clear river!!

We should participate in the famous bon-dance some day, too!!

昨年は大人だけで郡上八幡を訪れ、下駄を購入しました。

今年は子供たちと出かけたので、
違う楽しみ方をしましたよ。

子供たち（とくに息子）は「水まんじゅう」にドはまり　笑。
そして、風船に入ったかわいいお菓子「清流のしずく」も
いただいてきました。
暑い夏には、やはりこういうお菓子が食べたくなりますね。

冷たくてきれいな吉田川散歩も楽しめました♪
いつか郡上踊りに参加しなくては！！

地元のお祭りたち local festivals

This year, we visited so many festivals and fireworks
that were held here and there throughout the town.
Even supermarkets hold festivals during summer!!
And of course, there are still several left till the end of summer.

Kids have memorized all the steps of
"Hidayansa," the very local bon-dance song
which every single citizen of Takayama can dance.

It is so nice to feel the cool breeze at night
and enjoy the songs, the dances, and fireworks
together with delicious food and alcohol!!

Out of all the festivals,
I strongly recommend the Tezutsu Fireworks!! (hand-held fireworks)

We haven't had the chance to see it right in front of the big stage
but still we can enjoy it quite close from them!!
It's soooooo exciting!  

(as for the photos of the tezutsu fireworks, I'm going to
put them on my next post)

今年は、高山の、とにかくたくさんのお祭りに出向きました。
大小様々なお祭りがあり、なんと、スーパーの各店舗までもが
お祭りを開きます。

我が家のキッズ、
高山市民ならば、誰でも踊れる「飛騨やんさ」を
すっかり覚えましたよ。

夜の涼しい風にあたりながら
歌って踊って花火をみて
更には美味しいおつまみとお酒をいただき
高山の夏は最高なのです♪

一番のオススメは以前も紹介した手筒花火！！
結局今年も、目の前では見れませんでしたが
少し離れた場所からでも、すごい迫力なんです！！
チャンスがあれば観に来てくださ～い。

テレビ取材を受けました♪ we were on TV

I took my students out to the morning market

several times again, at the beginning of 

the summer vacation, for an English speaking activity

and we were broadcasted on a local TV program!!

Kids are really having a great time communicating 

with the tourists

and I, myself, enjoy talking to them as well!!

English, for me, is such a strong tool that 

enables me to just walk up to anyone 

and begin conversations with them.

I truly wish that kids learn how joyful

it is to encounter many people from around the world

and stay curious about the world around them!!

Anyone, even adults, are welcome to join us anytime!!

夏休みも、子供たちと朝市へ出かけ

何度か「外国人突撃インタビュー」を行いました。

なんと、テレビ取材も受けたんですよ♪

子供たちはあっと言う間に

外国人に話しかけることに慣れていきます。

私自身、各国の方々との出会いが

楽しみで仕方がありません！

私にとって、「英語」は

このうえなく便利な道具、

目の前を通る、どんな見た目の方にでも

話しかけてみよう！と背中を押してくれる

心強い道具です。

子供たちにも、

伝わることの楽しさを体験してもらい、

もっと聞きたい、

もっと知りたい、

と感じてもらえたら嬉しいです。

大人の方も大歓迎、

一緒にインタビューに出かけませんか？　＾＾

毎日暑いですね so hot these days

my gosh, it's been more than a week since I
wrote my last post.

so sorry to those who's been visiting my blog.

we're all doing just great.

it's just that we're enjoying the summer too much :)

I have been suuuuuuper busy
and just don't have the time to sit in front of my computer.

There're lots'n lots of events going on during summer
and we're enjoying them as well.

Please, let me have another week off.
I will try to come back sometime during next week.

I know it's melting hot everywhere but
make sure to enjoy your summer your own way!!

こちらは、みんな元気にしております。
元気過ぎて困っています　笑。

ただただ、パソコンの前に座る時間がないだけなんです。

観光地高山には夏のイベントが盛りだくさん、
欲張ってキッズとあちこちに参加しております。
