Hi from Takayama

I'm Sanae. I have lived in Takayama for 4 and a half years starting Oct. 2014 till March 2019. I enjoyed living in such a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. Here is a blog that shares the happy times I had in Takayama.

My new place is Anjo, Aichi, but I'm too much in love with Takayama, I will continue adding some more infos about Takayama, plus I will be adding some updates about my new place as well.

Also, my life has been about "moving" everywhere!! Believe it or not, this was my 14th time to move and I thought there are a lot to share about my "moving life." There are some special things that I see and experience by living in different cities not just in Japan but in other countries as well!!

Cheers to new findings!!

2016 the twenty fourth market 2016

We went to a once in a year event "the twenty fourth market," on January 24th.

Since we had so much fun last year,
we were so looking forward to this event.

We learned that, many shops and restaurants prepare products and food
especially for this particular event at special discount prices!!

We aimed for
an apple pie with whole four apples and Hida Beef
first thing in the morning!!

Hida Beef was being sold at half their usual price!!

My daughter bought dried kyoho grape with her allowance!!
They are her favorite, and
she was so happy that they were 200 yen cheaper than usual : )

I got a cutting board I had been wanting for years!!

As I have explained in last year's post,
24th of January was the year end in the old calendar,
and people bought household utensils and farming tools at this market.

Unlike last year,
the 24th, this year, was a freezing day with a highest temperature -2 degrees Celsius.
But we certainly enjoyed having warm sake and hot wine in chilly air.
We even had coffee with red bean paste and mochi (rice cake).
How creative!!

But still,
if we get too cold,
cafes and restaurants are open to sit inside.
We had a special Hida Beef Sushi Roll!!

So sad this fun event is over,
we'll have to wait for another year...

    1. Hi Tomo!!
Yes! Cutting board is "manaita." We, Japanese, even call it a カッティングボード, don't we? I also think it's so fun to encounter and learn new words and phrases!! You are doing great in both Thai and English!!
