お久しぶりです it's been a while again!

I think I've been apologizing all the time recently for
not updating this blog for a long time.
Sorry again to those who have been visiting me often : (

We are all well : )
We are having fun in our new environment.

I kind of have to admit that,
I take fewer photos now in my everyday life.
Perhaps because there are fewer photogenic sceneries
fewer photogenic moments
or it may be just because kids have grown and
we have less time to explore and spend together.
The everyday life in Takayama was way too "unusual" for us.
Things that are sold in supermarkets, the harsh winter,
the scenic mountains and colorful autumn, and on and on.
We wanted to make sure we take notes of each precious moment there.

Anyways, remember the fun part of our new life here?
Yes!!  We are so close to the sea!!
Several weeks ago, dad took us to crab fishing (crab catching?)
The season seems to have ended but
we had the most fun time by the sea although it was so windy.

Are we ready for the windy winter here?
We're not sure.
Takayama was surprisingly calm, I mean just in terms of wind.
(Harsh in terms of coldness and snow of course)
It's becoming dryer and dryer
We're getting static shocks already.
I will surely have chapped hands, noooooo.
We'll see what happens.

ブログのアップデートができず
なんだか最近、誤ってばかり、
ごめんなさい　：）

そうですねぇ、正直言いまして
こちらに来てから、
カメラを持って出かけることが少なくなりました。
高山では、私たちにとっての「非日常」ばかりで
ちょっと買い物に出るだけでも、パチリ、なんていうこともしばしばでした。
単純に、子供達がすっかり成長し
「ゆったり散歩」の回数も減ってしまったからかもしれませんが。
ただ、基本的に「散歩」が好きな我が家は
車で渋滞にはまるくらいなら、、、
と周辺をうろうろ歩いて出かけることが未だに多いです。

そうそう、
今月は、父に「カニ釣り（捕り？）」に連れて行ってもらいましたよ。
こんなご馳走がカゴに入ってくれるだなんて！！！
これはやめられないですね：）

さぁ、いよいよ風びゅんびゅんの冬がやってきそうです。
高山は驚くほど穏やかでしたから、
（あ、気温や雪は穏やかではありません　笑）
風という意味では、無風の日も多かったのです。
こちらは、乾燥をあちこちで感じております。
静電気！
肌荒れ！
どうなることやら～。

魚釣り fishing!

We are enjoying our life living near the ocean!!

Granpa & grandson (don't forget the grand daughter, too)

fishing together.  It was something we had wanted to do 

and of course we have done it before but 

yay it can happen quite easily without too much planning.

We even got a crab!!!

All the fish were really tiny but 

we had less than two hours

and it was great fun for us beginners.

Miss the mountains but the ocean is fun too!!

海に近いこの環境を満喫中です。

じいちゃんと孫で釣り！！

もちろん、今までも何度か連れて行ってもらいましたが、

明日行くか！と気軽にできるようになりました、イエイ。

カニまで捕れましたよ。

できませんが、、、）

魚たちは、チビスケばかりですが、

時間があまりない中で、上出来↗

初心者の私たちには最高のご褒美でした。

山が恋しいけど、海もいいね♪

中間試験 exam week

It's my daughter's exam week.

In municipal Junior High Schools in Japan
there are midterm exams and end-of-the-term exams.
The number of terms differs depending on the cities
and in her previous school in Takayama,
the school year was divided into 2 semesters,
now in Anjo, her school is divided into 3 semesters.

You move to another school,
the systems are quite different
and kids will have to adapt to the new curriculum.

And as I said,
this is now her exam week.
Since she is in her second year of the Junior High School,
teachers expect everyone to know how everything goes.

She is trying hard to prepare for the coming exam
but she told me she is a bit worried because
she doesn't know the trend of the exams if you know what I mean.
There are these certain tendencies to
what kind of questions teachers will give.

I guess it's another challenge for her.

This very well proves that test scores prove nothing.

現在娘のテスト期間中（期末）です。

一言でテスト期間と言っても
中間テスト、期末テスト、そして学校によって
範囲の設定の仕方や、出題のし方も様々です。
例えば、娘が以前通っていた高山の学校は
現在中間テスト中、何故ならあちらでは前期・後期の
二期制を採用しているからです。

娘は中学２年生ですので、周囲のみんなにとっては
一年経験した後の、二年目のチャレンジです。
娘にとっては、新しい学校での初めての試験、
全く初めてに等しいチャレンジになるわけです。
この学校や、先生の傾向なども全くわかりません。
違う教科書を使用していた１年生の頃のおさらい問題も出るようです。

それでもテストはテスト、
これで成績が決まっていくわけです。

テストスコアなんて、
ただの数字よね、
子供たちのがんばりや実力を測るもっと有効な手段があればなぁ。

何はともあれ、がんばれ～☆

公園、公園、公園 park, park, park

Here is what we looove about our new environment.

There are so many beautiful parks to enjoy
around our new place in Anjo City.
Each is not that big, but they are all so close by
and we are so thankful that we can visit these parks
every single day.

Do you remember early in 2016
I was talking about visiting the Mayor of Takayama
to tell him that we need more parks in Takayama?

my previous post about visiting the mayor

I mentioned that he listened carefully to what I said,
he really did pay attention
but my wish never came true in the past 3 years.

We did find places here and there, although not satisfied enough,
to enjoy picnics, to run around, to spend out in the sun
while we were in Takayama
but always thought we need more.

Having plenty of parks around is one of the aspects that made
the kids easy to make friends.
It will take quite a while for any children to visit his/her friends' house.
It's much, much easier to meet up at parks.
You can visit the park anytime you want
You can leave whatever time you wish.
You can just be there whenever you feel like it.
You may find your classmate.
You may find big guys.
You can play with younger kids.
You can meet adults.
You will find cute pets.
You don't have to bring anything.
You can play on the field.
You can swing.
You can slide.
You can make noise.
You can communicate!!

Park is a must.
Park is something we got to have every day.
Park is a place you play in.
Park is a place you meet.
Park is a place you get tired.
Park is a place you relax.
Park is a place you learn.

Even though we have left Takayama already.
We love the place too much!!
And we still wish there were more parks there,
tiny ones and huge ones!!

Trust me,
I am going to challenge the mayor again
even if I'm not a citizen anymore : )

It's my hope and it's my dream
for Takayama to have plenty of places to run around
for the kids to spend healthy lives physically and mentally!!

私たちの新しい環境でとても気に入っているところ
それは、近所に公園がたくさんあることです。

遠方から足を運ぶほどの公園ではありませんが
十分過ぎる広さと、十分過ぎる設備が整った
素敵な公園がたくさんあるのです。

以前、「高山の中心地に公園が少ない！！！」
とブログに載せたことがあります。

市長を訪ねた記事

市長は、話を親身に聞いてくださいましたが、
結局滞在期間中、新しく公園ができることはありませんでした。

子供がぱっと行ける身近な公園
そして、家族で一日過ごす公園
どちらも必要です！！！

公園と名の付く場所には出かけ
ピクニックをしたり、走り回ったり、
太陽の下で過ごす時間を一生懸命つくりました。
でも、まだ足りません！！

この新しい土地に子供たちが、すんなりと溶け込むことができたのは
公園のお陰と言っても過言ではありません。
家を行き来するほどの仲になるには、多少時間がかかります。
でも、公園があれば話は違います。
好きな時間に訪れればいい
用事があったら先に帰ればいい
気が向いた時に行けばいい
クラスメイトがいるかもしれない
年上の子と遊べるかもしれない
小さな子もいるかもしれない
大人も散歩している
ペットだっている
手ぶらでいけばいい
ブランコがある
すべり台がある
大きな声を出したってかまわない
何よりも人と接することができるのです。

公園は絶対に必要！！
公園て、毎日必要
公園は遊ぶ場所
公園は出会う場所
公園で疲れるほど遊ぶのは最高
公園はリラックスする場所
公園は学ぶ場所

高山のことが大好き
大自然があって、人々が温かい高山に焼きもちすら焼きます。
でもひとつ！！！
公園がもっと欲しい。

そうです。私たち、もう高山を離れています。
でも、再度チャレンジしたいなぁ。（めざせ市長室！？）
子供たちの心身の健康のために
やはり公園は必要不可欠なので！！

運動会 sports day

In Japan, almost every school hold a sports event at least once a year,

either in spring or in autumn.

Experiencing three different elementary schools in

neighboring prefectures, it is interesting to find out 

their similarities and differences.

The decoration is always the flags!!

I wonder how this started.

I've written several posts about the sports day 

held in Takayama previously!!
The cheering competition was always so exciting

and I'm so glad my kids were able to take part in it!!

This time in our new place,

the programs were quite short.

In fact, the whole event ended in the morning

and parents didn't have to worry about preparing the 

huge bento (lunch) for the family.

This is both good and bad I guess.

Eating bento with the family I would say is the fun part 

of the big event and kids always enjoy

the gorgeous lunch!!  However, at the same time,

it is such a big burden for the mothers

having to prepare the bento.

Some mothers start preparing it from the night before!!

I kind of missed not having bento lunch during the event,

but at the same time, it was also nice to have a rather 

relaxing morning.  If I could choose, I truly do not know 

which is better.

So I guess, I'm lucky I'm able to experience both!!

As long as we make sure our kids work hard and 

do their best as well as enjoy the day,

I think it's fine whichever style.

以前、何度か高山の運動会について書きました。

子供たちが通っていた学校は毎年秋の運動会でしたが、

こちらでは春、先週末がその運動会でした。

名古屋　→　高山　→　安城

三つ目の小学校ですが、それぞれ共通点や違いがあり

おもしろいですね。

飾りは何故かどこも万国旗☆

これってどうしてなのでしょう、

理由は考えたこともありません。

高山の運動会は

赤団と白団に分かれ、

とにかく熱い応援合戦が繰り広げられ

どの競技の際にも、生徒たちがみな大声で応援をするスタイル。

この熱い運動会に参加することができて、本当に良かった。

そして、それとは打って変わって

こちらの運動会はとてもシンプルなスタイル。

午前のみの運動会でした。

午前のみということは弁当の用意が不要ということなのです。

家族で楽しむ弁当タイムがないのは寂しい、、、

でも、こんなにリラックスして運動会を迎えたのは

初めて！！！それはそれで、ありがたかったりもします。

どちらか選べます！と言われたら

どちらを選ぶのか、正直わかりません。

ということは、両方経験できた私たちってラッキー♪♪

（ちなみに名古屋は、生徒は教室で弁当タイム、でした。

本当にみんなそれぞれ）

いずれにしても、子供たちが「運動会」のために

一生懸命取り組み、精一杯がんばり、楽しんでくれているなら

それが一番ですね！！

高山は日が短かくて the daylight time of Takayama

Takayama is a city surrounded by high mountains.
You know what this means?

The day time is much, much shorter than other places in Japan.
The sunrise and sunset is always so beautiful,
it comes from between the mountains,
but especially the sunset, it happens so quick
and the night suddenly comes!!

Of course, it depends on the seasons too
but, after around 3 PM, you start feeling
the evening or the night coming.

Here, in my new place, for me, the sunset takes hours
(exaggerating a little) and since it stays bright until a little past 7,
yep, it's coming close to summer solstice so that's another reason,
but
I always forget to start preparing dinner, haha.  I'm serious.

Kids come home earlier than they used to in Takayama
but our dinner starts later here because of me : )
Well, it's good, kids have more time to enjoy their afterschool time!!

山々に囲まれた高山、
これは何を意味するのでしょう。

日が当たる時間が、他の地域に比べて極端に短いのです。
日の出も日の入りも、とても美しい、
よく子供たちと眺めていました。
ただ、日の入りはとにかくあっと言う間で、
気が付くとストンと真っ暗になってしまう印象です。

時期にもよりますが、
3時を過ぎると、なんとなく夕方の気配がしてくるのです。

そんな場所で約５年過ごした私、
7時を少しすぎても、うっすら明るいこちらでは
（もちろん最も日の長い時期に近づいてきているせいもありますが）
夕食作りに取りかかるのを忘れてしまうのです。
これ、ほんと。

高山にいた頃よりも帰宅時間の早い子供たち。
なのに、夕食タイムがこれまでよりも遅くなってしまった、、、
（私のせいで、、、笑）
なんだかアフタースクールが一気に長くなり
充実した時間を過ごす我が子達なのです。

One of the things I really missed while living in Takayama
was "clam digging."

I am a shellfish lover!!
And I have to go clam digging at least once during the season!!

But clam digging, as you know, cannot be done every day.
It wasn't easy for us waiting for the high tide to
fit on the weekends.

Finally, moving nearer to the Pacific, my dream came true!!

The only thing was....

too many people!!!!!

Of course, we were expecting crowds,
BUT
gosh, we were shocked at the number of people there.

As a result, actually, it wasn't bad as it looked.
We were able to find a perfectly peaceful spot,
and we were able to concentrate on our digging : )

We dug 8 kg in total and happily brought them all back home!!
We're enjoying them in all sorts of styles, yay!!

高山にいる間、ずっとやりたかった事が
「潮干狩り」

私、貝大好き人間なのです。
シーズンに一度は潮干狩りに出掛けないと気が済まない人です。

潮干狩りは、毎日できるわけではないので
潮のタイミングと家族のスケジュールを
照らし合わせると、なかなかチャンスは訪れませんでした。

やっとやっと、夢実現です！！

ただ、

人が、、、、多い！！！
もちろんですよん、ある程度は想像していました。
到着してびっくり、想像を超える人の数。

でも、結果的に静かなスポットを探すことができ
家族全員、貝採りに集中できました　笑

全員で8キロ採りましたよ。
ありとあらゆる調理法で堪能中です。

なんじゃもんじゃの木 Chinese fringe tree

*this is a post about our new place, Anjo, Aichi-prefecture


There is a huge "Chinese fringe tree"
in the middle of my son's new school field.

The tree became a "city designated natural monument" last year
and a lot of people come to enjoy the beautiful flowers during this season.

Actually, the peak was at the beginning of May.
How nice to have such a beautiful tree in the middle of the school field!
My son gets to play around it every single day!!

息子が通い始めた小学校の校庭には
とても大きなヒトツバタゴ（なんじゃもんじゃ）の木があります。

昨年、市の指定天然記念物に選ばれたそうです。
この時期には美しい白い花を咲かせます。

花のピークはゴールデンウィーク辺りでしたが
息子は毎日、この大きな木を眺めながら遊べるなんて、
う～ん、いいなっ！！　笑

新しい学校 new schools

Kids have started to go to their new schools.

Today was my daughter's open school and
I went to watch her English class.

I was so relieved to see her enjoy the class.
She was quite interactive with the teacher as well as other students.

She was actually saying,
"I think I kind of know how to make friends
better than the last time!!"

I guess it's my turn now.
How shall I make friends?
It's obviously more difficult than the last time.

Well, time to turn my switch on.

子供たちはそれぞれの新しい学校へ通い始めました。

今日は娘（中学生）の授業参観でした。
科目は英語。

何度か手をあげて発言したり、
周囲の子ともたくさんおしゃべりしている様子を見て一安心！

娘本人も
「友達作りが前よりもうまくなった気がする！」
ですって。あんなにも人見知りの激しい子だったのにね。

さてと、私の番です。
高山に行った時よりも難しそうだぞ、
スイッチを入れてがんばりまっす。

新しい場所よりこんにちは！ Hi from our new place!!

Just like 5 years ago,
we are now in another place,
this time we're in Aichi Prefecture.

We enjoyed Takayama so much
and there are still a lot of things
we would like to inform you about the place
so I decided to update this blog
sometimes about Takayama
and other times perhaps about our new place.

I considered changing the title of the blog
but I'm going to keep it the same way.
This blog is no different in a way that
it started out with our love towards Takayama!!

We still haven't settled in our new place
so I'll have to say the update will be quite slow
but come and visit if you have time!!

約５年前と同じように
新しい場所へ移動した私たち、
今度は愛知県安城市におります。

高山のような孤立した町とは違い
安城市、と言っても
安城に留まるわけではなく、
これからは愛知全体、時には静岡、長野、岐阜、三重と
一気に行動範囲も広くなると思います。

まだまだ高山について紹介したいこともあるので
高山について、そして時には愛知の情報も
入れながら、スローペースで更新していこうかと考えています。

タイトルを変更しようか悩みましたが、
高山愛から始めたブログなので
まぁいっか。
そのままにしておこうと思います。

まだまだ部屋はぐちゃぐちゃ、、、
落ち着くのは少し先になりそうです。
ブログのアップはあまり期待せず、
よろしければお暇な時に覗いてくださいませ。
