Hi from Takayama

I'm Sanae. I have lived in Takayama for 4 and a half years starting Oct. 2014 till March 2019. I enjoyed living in such a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. Here is a blog that shares the happy times I had in Takayama.

My new place is Anjo, Aichi, but I'm too much in love with Takayama, I will continue adding some more infos about Takayama, plus I will be adding some updates about my new place as well.

Also, my life has been about "moving" everywhere!! Believe it or not, this was my 14th time to move and I thought there are a lot to share about my "moving life." There are some special things that I see and experience by living in different cities not just in Japan but in other countries as well!!

Cheers to new findings!!

Hida Folk Village

I have written several posts about Hida Folk Village before.

Just enter the Folk Village and you feel like
you have time travelled back to the good old days.

Enjoy the scenery with fresh greens!!
I will place the links of autumn sceneries and
winter sceneries as well.

They will actually be planting rice seedling soon in the village!!

日本昔話の景色 good old Japanese scenery

We went to the Hida Folk Village last week.

The leaves are beautifully colored
and the persimmon trees in the village adds spice to the scenery.

These are sceneries that appears in the
"Nihon Mukashi Banashi" (Japanese Folktales), don't you think?

We enjoyed playing with toys from the old days,
and had fun feeding the carps, ducks and a swan.

Once you step inside this Hida Folk Village
it takes you right back to the good old days
when houses and architectural structures
blended in perfectly with the nature.

It was a day with both rain and sun,
and we found a huge rainbow spreading behind the mountains!!
(I hope you see the rainbow on the 8th picture!!)
An awsome gift from the nature!!

(By the way the Hida Folk Village looks like this duriing winter!!)

It wasn't my first time to see icicles in Takayama.
I had seen some when I was little and in other places I traveled.

BUT,
I had never seen such huge, long, gigantic, icicles in the past.
(I'm not sure which adjective best describes them
but they're  simply "BIG!!")

We sometimes go on an icicle tour, haha
to observe the various icicles
formed on various places.

Hope you enjoy the photos!!

icicles form even on trees

these are the gigantic ones

I think the length are longer than our heights

Yesterday, we went to "Hida Folk Village."
There are around thirty traditional buildings including
old Japanese style houses and shrines.
These buildings were relocated from the countryside of this area
which means they were actually being used for hundreds of years.

Not only we can enter these old houses and shrines but
we also can experience the cultures of the old days.
The event of the snowy season is
"sliding and skiing using old tools."

Our kids just loved to ride the box sleds and bamboo skies.

There were explanations that
every house owned box sleds and used them to carry
little children and luggages on snow.
Children also enjoyed riding them along with
bamboo skies.

My daughter who just started learning how to ski (I mean modern ski, ha-ha)
enjoyed bamboo skiing a lot.
It seems she's gotten the hang of it after trying it for a few times.

The box sled needs no tips to ride
but it goes faster than you imagine
which our son loooooved, of course!!

These are not just for youngsters
so anybody should try them
imagining what it was like in the good old days.
