雨ばかり、、、 too much rain

Our beloved river looked like this today.
Too much rain, recently.

大好きな宮川、今朝通りかかったら
こんなに増水していました。
雨、しばらくはいりませんーー。

ひどい雨でした terrible rain

I'm so sorry I wasn't able to update my blog
for such a long time.

It rained heavily here, too
(there were more disasters in other regions)
for four full days.

Thanks to those who sent us messages,
we are safe and fine.

The sky was so bright this morning.

本当にご無沙汰してしまいました。

ひどい雨でした。

ご心配いただき、たくさんのメッセージを
ありがとうございました。

今朝の空は本当に美しかった。
川の水はまだ元通りではありませんが、
少しずつ回復していくと思います。

Miyagawa River this morning

あまごの天ぷら a river fish tempura

After we enjoyed the wonderful hike along the river in Osaka,
we had the most delicious, the freshest "amago" tempura!!
Amago is a type of trout with red spots that live in the rivers.

The man who was preparing the tempura was so nice
that he let the kids pick their own trout!!

小坂の滝散歩を楽しんだ後
新鮮なあまごの天ぷらをいただきました！

お店の方がとても親切で
キッズは自分のあまごを水槽からセレクト♪

新鮮なあまごはとにかく最高でしたよ！

新緑のせせらぎ街道ドライブ a fresh green drive along "Seseragi Road"

"Seseragi Road" is a road that runs southward
for about 70 km leading to Gujo.

Last Friday, since it was a such a beautiful day,
my husband and I decided to do a quick drive south
while the kids were at school.
Actually, we really wanted to take our kids with us
but we chose "the Japanese way" and decided to
take them on a weekend.

Anyways, no explanations are needed, don't you think?

We absolutely enjoyed
the bluest sky,
the freshest greens,
and the clearest river.

清見から、郡上へと続く「せせらぎ街道」を
ドライブしてきましたー。

とても気持ちのいい朝だったので
思いつきで、キッズいぬ間に出かけたのでした。
正直、子供たちと行きたかった。
でも、今回は下見？ということで
一足お先に私たちだけで出かけてきました。

説明はいりませんね。

空の青！
木々の緑！
クリアな川の水！
贅沢贅沢贅沢、
近いうちに必ずキッズと行くぞ！！！

馬瀬 Maze

We went to "Maze"
one of the most beautiful villages in Japan!!

The place is about one and a half hour drive south from Takayama.

We thought Miya-River of Takayama was clear enough but
wait till you see the water there.
The water of Maze-River was just soooooo clear and beautiful.

The two boys spent hours and hours trying to catch tadpoles and tiny fish.

It was a day with highest temperature about 35 degrees
but as long as we had our feet inside the river,
we could spend the whole day out in the sun.

We enjoyed the most peaceful day there.

There's also a nice "onsen" (hot spring) there that shouldn't be missed♪

自宅から約1時間半ほど南へドライブすると
馬瀬という美しい村があります。

宮川も充分に美しいのですが、
馬瀬川の透明度には驚きました。

我が家のボーイズ、
オタマジャクシ＆小魚すくいに必至！！
（何も道具を持っていかなかったので、、、）

最高気温が35℃の真夏日でしたが、
川に足を入れていると
一日外で過ごせてしまえそうな快適さでした。

のどかなのんびりとした時間を過ごしましたよ。

そして、馬瀬には温泉もあるのです♪
一日の締めには最高です～。

宮川の鴨 ducks and Miya-gawa (Miya River)

I have written a bit about the beautiful carps that swim in Miya-gawa previously.

Today, I want to introduce the ducks as well.

My kids always keep bread crumbs or some crackers in their pockets
when taking a walk along Miya-gawa.

They love feeding not only the carps but the ducks!!

The number of ducks increases during the cold time of the year
and we love to watch them swim in the beautiful Miya-gawa.

During winter time, the appetite of carps seems to decrease and
ducks will mostly swim over to us once we start throwing bread crumbs into the river.

Even on a cold winter day, it is nice to sit by the river, feed the ducks
and have some delicious bread ourselves with some warm coffee!!

随分前に宮川の鯉について記事を書きましたが、
今日は鴨の話です。

子供たちは宮川散歩をする時には、
いつもポケットにパンくずかクラッカーを忍ばせています。

鯉だけではなく、鴨にもエサをあげるためです。

冬季になると、鴨の数が増え、
美しい宮川をスイスイ泳ぐ姿がなんともかわいいのです。

寒くなると、鯉はあまりエサを食べなくなる代わりに
鴨がたくさん近寄ってくるようになります。

寒い冬の日も、
温かいコーヒーと、自分用のパンも一緒に
「宮川散歩と鴨のエサやり」が大好きな私たちなのでした。

宮川の鯉 carps of Miya-gawa (Miya-river)

Miyagawa is a river that runs from south to north
passing through the center of the city to the
direction of the Japan Sea.

On the east side of Miyagawa is the old town,
and Miyagawa Morning Market is also a popular spot to visit in Takayama.

And in this Miyagawa, you will see lots of beautiful orange carps
swimming gracefully.

We actually love feeding them!

In the early 1930's, the town and the river
were both losing their beauty due to the rapid civilization.

In the late 1930's, these beautiful carps were first released in Miyagawa
by the local children's association to keep the river clean.
They thought that if such elegant carps were swimming in the river,
the adults would not throw trashes anymore.
What a smart idea!!

Some interesting fact to keep in mind
when taking a stroll along Miyagawa!!

宮川は高山の中心を流れる美しい川です。

古い町並みは宮川の東側に位置し、
宮川朝市もまた有名なスポットのひとつです。

そして、この宮川では無数の鯉が優雅に泳いでいます。

子供たちと、よくこの鯉にエサをあげて楽しみます。

昭和９年に高山線が開通し、近代化が進んだため
町や川が汚れてきてしまいました。

これをなんとかしようと立ち上がったのが
子供会だったそうです。
美しい鯉が泳いでいれば、大人は川にゴミを
捨てないだろうと考え、宮川の鯉の放流が始まったそうです。
なんて素敵な考えでしょう！！

宮川を当たり前のように泳ぐ鯉たちに
そんなエピソードがあったんですね。
