空の広さ size of the sky

We enjoyed our hometown during the winter break.

Yay, blue and wide sky!!

This used to be our usual view and it was too usual

We thought there was nothing special about the size of the sky.

冬休み、愛知を堪能してきました。

キレイな青い空♪

高山に来るまで、これはごくごく普通の当たり前の景色でした。

空の広さなんてあまり気にしたことがありませんでした。

Here in Takayama,

we're surrounded by mountains.

The sunrise is late and the sun sets early.

こちらは四方八方を山に囲まれていますから

空を実感するよりも、山の存在感の方が大きい気がします。

日の出は遅く、日の入りは早いのが高山です。

Living in different places allows us to rethink how 

unique and special each place is.

違う場所を経験し、地元の「特別」を

再確認することができるのです。

今日の乗鞍 today's Mt. Norikura 13-Dec-2018

Mt. Norikura today is too beautiful.
I just can't resist looking at it.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the size of the house.
It is too small for our family to live in
considering our kids have grown bigger.

But, I love the view from my bedroom window too much.

It's a view I would pay for.

Aren't you jealous I have my own reserved seat to
view this beautiful mountain whenever I want for as long as I wish,
on the sunniest day
on the day with the most beautiful clouds
when the sun is about to rise
on a full moon night
at night with sparkly stars?

本日の乗鞍、美し過ぎませんか。
二階の窓から離れられない私です。
（しかも、窓は開けっぱなし　笑）

こちらの家、少々手狭になっており
（とくに、子供たちのサイズが大きくなってきましたので　＾＾）
不便に感じることもあれこれありますが、
この窓からの眺めが大好きで
結局ずっとこちらにお世話になっております。

お金を払ってでも見たいこの景色♪

空がとにかく青くて澄んでいる日
美しい雲が空いっぱいに広がっている日
山の隅から日が昇る瞬間
満月の美しい夜
星がキラキラと輝く夜
全てを堪能できる完璧なる「乗鞍ビュー」な窓、
ちょっとうらやましくないですか？

さすがに寒くなってきました Yep it's cold

It snowed quite a lot last weekend.

It was -3 ℃ this morning.

Guess what? 

I didn't take any pictures!!

Are we not officially true citizens of Takayama?  : )

"Yeah, it snowed,

so what?  It's December.

Keep cool.

We're not making any fusses about it."

Well, actually not.

Of course, we were so excited!!

We still can't resist taking photos of Mt. Norikura

when the sky is beautiful!!

先週末は雪でした。

結構降ったんですよ。

今朝は-３℃！

なのに、

写真を一枚も撮らなかったわたしたち。

私たち、正真正銘の「高山人」になったと思いませんか。

「そうね、１２月だから

そりゃ雪も降るさー。

大騒ぎすることじゃないわね。」

なんて、そんなわけないじゃないですか。

もちろん、ワクワクでしたよ。

雪が降る中出掛けましたよ♪

雪で遊びましたよ。

そして、空が美しい日には、

乗鞍の写真を撮らずにはいられません！！

家の窓からの眺めが大好きです♪

あじか Ajika

Ajika is a vegetable market located about
8km away from our place.

We can reach the place in just 10 minutes by car.

BUT

last weekend, my son and I decided to visit the place by bike!!

In that case, we had to take a different route
that is about 10km one way.

For us, that is a very long way
but we had a lot of fun biking along the rail track plus the river.

The view was just so perfect
and we even enjoyed having a picnic on the way back.

We will definitely do it again before it starts snowing!!

家から8キロほどのところに「あじか」という野菜マーケットがあります。
普段は、ひょいと車で出掛けちゃう場所ですが、
先週末、息子と自転車で行ってみました。

その場合、途中に自転車では通れないトンネルがあるので
距離が10キロに伸びます。

私たちにとって10キロは結構な距離でしたが
線路や川沿いを通るルートは想像していた以上に素敵でした。

帰りには、マーケットで軽くランチを買い、
ピクニックして帰りましたよ。

雪が降る前にまたサイクリングせねば♪

清見へサイクリング biking to Kiyomi

I went biking all the way to Kiyomi with my husband.
Kiyomi is about 120m higher in its altitude than here,
so the slope is not that steep but for a
non-fit biker like myself, the uphill ride was exhausting.

On the way, we found a road called the
"Hida Beef Road" where we found several cattle farms : )

Our goal was a lavender farm where they let us pick lavenders.
The owner told us that the season has just started and
that we were the very first customers, yay.

After enjoying the flower picking,
there's no need to explain how we
"wheed" back home, since it was a downhill ride!!

The lavenders are happily hanged on our wall right now for drying!!

The ride was 30km in total.
I'm not sure if we could do the same thing during the
hottest season, but the view on the way is soooo beautiful
we should definitely challenge again!!

先日、夫と清見まで自転車で行ってみました。
この付近と清見との高低差は120mほどのようですので、
そこまで急な坂、ということはないのですが、
普段鍛えていない私にとって、
終わりのない上りは、地獄の坂道でした、、、。

途中で「飛騨牛街道」を発見。
あちこちに牛舎を見つけましたよ。

目的地は、ラベンダー園。
今年もラベンダーを摘んできました。
私たち、今年のお客さん第一号だったそうです、やった。

帰り道の快適なこと！！！
これはやめられない。
風を切って、びゅーーーーん、と
帰宅しました。

そしてラベンダーは壁に吊るして乾燥中。

色々より道も含め約30km。
行きの辛さを考えると
これからの暑い季節に同じことができるか不安ですが、
途中の眺め、そして快適な帰り道を考えると
是非またチャレンジしたいなー。

大好きな景色 our favorite view

I just love the view starting now,
where water is placed in all the paddies
and rice plants are or will be planted sooner or later.

Also, I love the view when kids are playing around the paddies
trying to catch tadpoles, frogs or other creatures!!
I always want to join them!!

AND look at the mountains behind!!
Just beautiful!!

これからの景色が大好きなんです。
田んぼに水が入り、
グリーンが広がっていく景色。

そして、田んぼの脇で子供たちが遊ぶ姿を眺めるのも大好きです。
おたまじゃくし、かえる、それ以外の生き物を探して大忙し。
仲間に入りたい～～。

そして、後ろに見える美しい乗鞍岳！！
最高～～♪

寒いけど although it's so cold

Yes, it's absolutely cold these days in Takayama.

The mornings are -5 or even under that.

When we get up in the morning,

the streets are sometimes completely icy and slippery.

melts a little during the day

low temperature at night

streets become bumpy and slippery

We have to be very cautious when we walk.

But still, it's nice to get out and take a stroll.

I luckily have chances to do a morning stroll every week!!

Cold but I get to enjoy these beautiful sights in return.

That's one thing I love about Takayama.

It is freezing but the snow makes the winter pleasurable.

毎日毎日本当に寒いです。

-5℃以下の朝が何度あったことか。

朝、外に出ると

道がツルツル。

積雪

↓

解ける

↓

気温が下がる

↓

道がツルツル、デコボコになる

歩くときは油断禁物です。

それでも、ツルツル道の散歩には
美しい景色のご褒美があるのです。

とことん寒くても
心が躍ってしまう雪景色です。

  

下呂小坂の滝 waterfalls of Osaka, Gero-city

We did not know there were such beautiful sights in Osaka, Gero-city.

The place is about 40 km from home, a 40-minute drive.

Our main aim that day was to visit the "Iwana Festival" being held there.
We simply wanted to enjoy iwana (char, name of a river fish)
and other food stalls at the festival.
Of course, we did enjoy the festival.

But the little hike that we had afterward
kind of became the main event of that day.

Not knowing where the track is taking us,
we passed through under the Shinto gate
and decided to keep on going until we get tired.

But no one complained,
we had great fun observing the huge rocks and trees on the way
and the path led us to the most beautiful waters and waterfalls!!

Later we found out that the unique looking rocks were
caused by lava flows.
Plus, there were almost 200 more waterfalls to visit in that area.

We were totally unprepared for that
so we simply enjoyed the "introduction" of Osaka waterfalls.

Now we clearly know what we're doing next year
after all the snow melts away!!

小坂の滝めぐり
名前はいつも聞いていましたが、
あまりきちんと把握していませんでした。

高山の自宅から約40キロメートル、4、50分ほどのドライブで小坂に到着します。

この日は実は、「いわな祭り」が目的で
この場所を訪れたのでした。

もちろん、楽しみましたよ、いわな祭り。

ついでにふらりと、最寄りの温泉スポットに寄り

何の気なしにくぐった鳥居、、、。

疲れるまで歩いてみようかー

と始めたお散歩。

道中のめずらしい岩や

その岩を包むように根をはる木々が美しくて

誰も文句をいいません。

気が付けば、出発した場所からすでに1キロ近く

なだらかな坂を登っていました。

どんどん奥へ進むと

なんとも美しい水、

めずらしい模様の絶壁、

そして、マイナスイオンたっぷりの滝が

現れたのでした。

後で分かったのですが、

このめずらしい模様は、溶岩流によるものだったのです。

私たちが今回観る事ができた滝は

たったの２、３個。

この辺りにはなんと200以上の滝があるそうです。

うわぁ、
私たち、準備不足過ぎました。
出直さなくては。

来年、雪が解けたらすることが決まった♪♪
