はさ干し rice harvesting
We're in the midst of rice harvesting!!!
Yay, it's the season we had all been waiting for.
Here in Takayama,
many farmers still dry the harvested rice plants
just like you can see in the photos below.
It is said that by drying the rice plants,
the water content goes down to about 15 %.
(It's about 20 at first)
It is better with lower water content for preservation.
Isn't it beautiful,
the golden color of the rice plants that are
ready to be harvested?
You probably know the saying
"The boughs that bear most hang lowest."
The same meaning is expressed with
rice plants in Japan.
All of you who are in Japan in autumn
MUST try the "new rice" (just harvested rice)
At supermarkets, you will find rice
that has "new 新" stickers on them!!
Enjoy the delicious rice in Japan!!

私たちが大好きなシーズンです。
高山では、まだまだ「はさ干し」をする
農家さんも多く、写真のような光景があちこちで見られます。
収穫直前の黄金色の田んぼは
本当に美しい。
「実るほど頭を垂れる稲穂かな」
英語でも、同じようなことわざがあります。
"The boughs that bear most hang lowest."
一番実の多い枝が一番垂れ下がる
日本人ならば、誰もが知っている
「新米」というワードですが、
海外の方は、当然お米に対する執着が低いせいもあり、
売られている米が新米なのか、そうでないのか、
もちろん、そんな表示もなければ
誰も意識していないのです。
この時期に日本を訪れる、海外観光客さんには
是非、新米のおいしさを味わって欲しいものです♪

大好きな景色 our favorite view
I just love the view starting now,
where water is placed in all the paddies
and rice plants are or will be planted sooner or later.
Also, I love the view when kids are playing around the paddies
trying to catch tadpoles, frogs or other creatures!!
I always want to join them!!
AND look at the mountains behind!!
Just beautiful!!
これからの景色が大好きなんです。
田んぼに水が入り、
グリーンが広がっていく景色。
そして、田んぼの脇で子供たちが遊ぶ姿を眺めるのも大好きです。
おたまじゃくし、かえる、それ以外の生き物を探して大忙し。
仲間に入りたい～～。

田舎みちサイクリング countryside biking
I had been wanting to update several posts
the last week but I just did not have the time
to sit in front of my PC.
I'm sure "smartphoners" will easily and quickly
update a blog using their smart one in just a few minutes
BUT I'm quite sure I will never be able to do that...
Anyways, I will try harder to be a frequent "updater"
I mean,
perhaps post a short ones just to let you know
what's happening around here.
My husband and I went to a quick 12 km biking
at the end of October.
It is quite hard to find a "flat road" in this region
and we certainly need more training to do a longer one.
But even a 6 km biking (one way) will take us
to such a beaaaaaautiful sight!!!!
We want to do it more often before it starts snowing.
もっと頻繁に記事を上げたいんです！
色々溜まっております。紅葉のピークですし！
ただ、ＰＣの前にゆっくり座る時間がないのです！
「スマートフォンを使いこなしている方々」ならば
あっっっっと言う間に、ブログ更新もできるのでしょう、、、。
私にはそんな日は来ない気がしております。
短くてもいいから
「高山の今」をお伝えできるように、がんばりまっす！
10月末に、主人と軽～い12 kmのサイクリングをしました。
12 kmもの平らな道はもちろん高山には存在しないので
距離を伸ばしたい場合は、もっとトレーニングが必要です 汗。
でも、片道たったの6 kmでも
こんなにも美しい景色が楽しめるので、高山は最高です☆
雪が降り出す前に、もう少し色々行きたいな。

we enjoyed observing you this year, too.
Both my daughter and my son did research on frogs
for their homework and they were both selected
to be exhibited at Takayama students' crafts and research exhibition!!
In two months, this place will be covered in snow.
See you next year, froggies♪

田んぼが好き♪ love rice paddies♪
Our kids, a third grader and a sixth grader,
they only have limited time to play after school
since they get tons of homework.
And guess how they spend their precious free time?
A lot of times, they are out at the neighbor rice paddies
catching tadpoles : )
When they're out there,
I'm there, too : )
Probably,
I'm the one who enjoys frogs and tadpoles the most, ha-ha.
我が家の三年と六年のキッズ、
放課後は宿題が山盛り、、、。
宿題以外の限られた時間をどのように過ごすかと言いますと、、、
この時期は、毎日のように近所の田んぼに出没！
おたまじゃくしキャッチングばかりしています。
彼らが田んぼにいる時は
私もそこにいることが多い 笑。
おたまじゃくし＆カエルキャッチングを
一番楽しんでいるのは
恐らく私 うふふ。
they only have limited time to play after school
since they get tons of homework.
And guess how they spend their precious free time?

10,000歩ぶらぶら雪道散歩 10,000 steps snowy ramble
The only place I had to go this morning was to the city hall.
SO,
I decided to ramble around a bit to enjoy the icy air and some wintry view.
So white
So beautiful
Don't you just love the snow flowers blooming on trees?
Do you see how the roped trees are holding snow perfectly as they're supposed to?
Do you see how thick the snow has accumulated on top of the roofs?
Don't you think the snow hat on the post box is just sooo cute?
Don't you just want to dive into the snowy rice field?
Walking around aimlessly
just watching these marvelous snow art
had made me walk 10,000 steps without even realizing, yay!!
今朝の用事は市役所へ行くことだけでした。
なので
冷たい空気と冬の景色を楽しむべく
ぶらぶら散歩へ出かけました。
なんて真っ白
なんて美しい

雪吊りがばっちり役割を果たしているでしょう。
屋根の上の雪の厚みがすごいでしょう。
ポストの雪帽子がかわいいでしょう。

紫陽花と田んぼ hydrangea and rice paddies
I just love the view of the rice paddies
in the neighbors.
They are getting greener and greener.
Plus, the hydrangeas are starting to bloom
and I can just stay there forever watching
the beautiful scenery.
Kids love to walk on the footpath between the paddies.
Actually, I do to!!
近所に広がる田んぼの景色が大好きです。
日ごとにどんどん緑が増していきます。
そして、紫陽花も咲き始め
ますます美しくなる景色、
一日眺めていても飽きません。
子供たちは「あぜ道散歩」が大好きです。
あ、私も大好きです！！
