we met this beautiful picture book titled
"Anoko Hennako" illustrated by Asuka Wada.
The author lives in Takayama.
I can't think of a perfect translation in English.
"That Strange Guy"
"A Weirdo" (I guess this expression is a little too strong)
Anyways, the story is about this strange looking creature
that does not belong to any existing animal/creature.
It's got some characteristics of a deer, some trait of a tiger,
some parts like a snake and so forth.
All the creatures tease him and avoid him because
he is so strange and weird-looking but in the end,
his unique trait saves the surroundings and
his uniqueness becomes his strength.
The message is straight forward and I love it.
This is something I continuously try to explain
and prove to my kids and to my friends as well.
I guess this well explains what I wanted to say in my previous
"the move post."
I found this particular book at Yuho-kan,
a beautiful shop and cafe in town
that has a lot of local crafts and products.

「あのこヘンナコ」という絵本に出会いました。

鹿のようで鹿ではない、ヘビのようでヘビでもない
らくだでもなくトラでもない
何にも属さない、属せない
主人公の生き物は「ヘンナコ」とからかわれます。
しかし、最後にはそのヘンナコが持っている不思議な力が
周囲を救うことになるのです。
とてもストレートなメッセージが伝わってくる絵本です。
以前こちらに書いた
引越でお伝えしたことが
短くわかりやすく表現にされている感じです。
この本を発見した遊朴館には
ゆったりできるカフェもあります。
作家さんたちの手作りクラフトを探しに
おいしい珈琲やデザート、ランチをいただきに
ぷらっと立ち寄ってみてはいかがでしょうか。
