特例ガイド業務していました tour guiding!!

I had been doing my tour guiding job for several days.
It's in the middle of the "Golden Week," remember?

The old town area and the morning market are packed with tourists.

I went to the station several times to pick up my client
and I start thinking, is this Japan?

Cherry blossoms have ended and fresh green season has come!!

The mornings are still quite cold but as soon as the sun goes up high,
it is probably the best season to take a stroll around.
Beside the fact that it is in the middle of the Golden Week,
no wonder there are so many tourists in the city.

The best thing about doing this job is that I get to share thoughts
with so many different people from around the world.
Chat about each other's everyday life,
discuss the economic problems of the countries,
complain about the politics and so forth.

Being asked about our way of living,
our culture, our religion, our houses,
it makes me stop, think and rethink about
what we eat and do without even noticing.

I was complaining about how
rules and regulations are too strict at schools and societies in Japan.
I was complaining that we should live a freer life
not minding too much about the "others."

But my clients tell me everyday,
how impressed they are with the politeness and the patience that we, Japanese, have,
and how well treated they are everywhere they go,
and how clean the town, the public facilities are
and so forth.

Strengths and weaknesses,
when one changes,
the other simply turns around, I guess.

Which is better, I don't know.
But the strength of Japan, I believe is quite unique,
we should probably keep them and reinforce them even.

I just love discussing endlessly about things that cannot be solved.

ここ数日間は、特例ガイド業務をしておりました。
ゴールデンウィークですから！！

古い町並みも朝市も人で溢れかえっています。

駅にお客様を迎えに行く度に、
ここは日本？と疑問に思ってしまうほどの外国人観光客の数なのです。

桜は終わり、新緑シーズンに突入です。

朝はまだまだ寒い高山ですが、
陽が高くなる頃には散歩に最適な気温、
一番いい季節なのかもしれません。
ここまで大勢の観光客が訪れるのは
ゴールデンウィークが理由だけではないということですね。

以前もお伝えしたように
この仕事で一番素敵なこと、
それは世界からいらっしゃる様々な国の方々と
普段の生活について、
時には経済の問題について
政治に関する不平不満について
ニュースには載らないことについて意見交換できることです。

普段、気にも留めないようなことに関して
聞かれ、驚かれ、
こちらも日々の何気ないことについて
疑問を投げかけあれこれ考えるようになるわけです。

日本での生活って
規律や規則がたくさんあり過ぎて
人に迷惑をかけない、我慢する、
周囲の目を気にする
そんなの窮屈
もっと「個」を大切にするべきでは、
他人の目を気にせず自由に生きたい
そんな風によく考えます。

でも、
毎日のようにお客様から言われるのです。
秩序があり
誰と話しても礼儀正しくて
我慢強くて心が温かい、
こんな国は他にない、
僕たちは自分の国が恥ずかしくなる時があるよ。
街もとても美しい。
そんなに褒めてもらったら照れちゃうわ、
というくら褒めてくださいます。

規律や規則を緩めたなら、
回りの目を気にしなくなったのなら、
長所と短所は紙一重、、、ですね。

どちらがいいのかな、
わかりません。
でも、日本のいいところは
やっぱりどこもマネのできない特別なもの。
より強化させなくてはいけないくらいかもしれません。

答えの出ない、こんなことについて
あれこれおしゃべりすることが大好きです。

高山中心市街地特例通訳案内士 Takayama Downtown Designated Local Guide

Last October,
I have passed an exam and now I am a certified
local guide of Takayama!!

I do not have a national guide certificate
so I am only allowed to guide within the town area of Takayama,
BUT given such wonderful opportunity,
I am having great experiences spending time with clients from all over the world!!

Many beauties of Takayama such as its untouched nature
and historical constructions themselves stand right in front of you
and are obvious to everyone
BUT
some of the beauties do not shout out loud.
They are often quiet and cannot be seen as long as you look for them
or actually communicate with the locals.

My job is to let the tourists get in touch with the locals
and make sure they don't miss the "quiet beauty" of Takayama.

Information is available everywhere in present days,
TV, websites, books, brochures and so forth
you can get to where ever you wish even in a strange town by using apps
but never forget to "communicate" with the locals when you're travelling.
If not you are seeing less than 10 % of what the place and people really are.

Although Takayama is not my hometown,
once I start listing the things I love about this city
the list just goes on and on and nobody can stop me boasting about this place!!
AND that is what I do!!


昨年の10月に
「高山中心市街地特例通訳案内士」の試験に無事合格し、
現在、中心市街地限定で特例ガイドの仕事をしています。

国家資格は持っていないので、
この地域限定ですが、
世界各国からのお客様と触れ合うことのできるこの仕事を
大変気に入っています。

手つかずの大自然や、
歴史ある建造物、
一目瞭然な「美」も多いのですが、
高山の本当の良さ、美しさは
ひっそりと静かに、見えないところに隠れているのです。

私の仕事は、
観光客の皆様に
この「静かな魅力」に気が付いてもらうことだと思っています。

テレビ、インターネット、本、パンフレット
情報はどこにでも溢れています。
初めて訪れる町も、携帯のアプリを利用すれば
ピンポイントに行きたいところへ迷うことなく連れていってくれます。

しかし、地元の人々とのコミュニケーションなしでは、
その町の10パーセントの魅力にも気付かずに旅が終わることになるのでしょう。

高山は私の「ふるさと」ではありません
オラが街ではないけれど
良いところを挙げ出したら、果てしなく続くのです。
自慢したいことがたくさんです。

それをさせてくれるこの仕事が大好きです。
