We went to the Shiroyama Park for the second time last week.
The last time we visited the park we climbed to the top,
but this time, we stayed at a picnic place
at the lower part of the park.
There is a small shop there and they serve good
oden and yakitori.
We all enjoyed a wonderful
autumn picnic at the Shiroyama park!!

notes of "everyday little findings" from Takayama City, Gifu, Japan
Hi from Takayama
I'm Sanae. I have lived in Takayama for 4 and a half years starting Oct. 2014 till March 2019. I enjoyed living in such a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. Here is a blog that shares the happy times I had in Takayama.
My new place is Anjo, Aichi, but I'm too much in love with Takayama, I will continue adding some more infos about Takayama, plus I will be adding some updates about my new place as well.

Also, my life has been about "moving" everywhere!! Believe it or not, this was my 14th time to move and I thought there are a lot to share about my "moving life." There are some special things that I see and experience by living in different cities not just in Japan but in other countries as well!!
Cheers to new findings!!

In Japan, there is an insect which is commonly called a "snow bug."
For several reasons, they are called that way.
For one thing, the bugs themselves carry some white fluffy substance on their abdomen
which look like snow.
For another, the bugs appear at the end of autumn
and people say, the first snow will fall after you see the snow bugs flying.
They also exist in non snowy areas but
people in cold or snowy region talk about this bug often
simply because they are in deep concerns about
when it will start snowing.
For the first time in my life,
I saw this "snow bug" up close.
I wish I could've taken some photos of them,
but they are soooooo tiny.
My son and daughter are having lots of fun
finding these tiny snow bugs everyday.
Is the snow coming?
Actually, we need a little more time for that.
We don't mind snow but we want to enjoy autumn a little longer.

You know what?
I have no idea how to translate today's post.
In Japan,
and of course in other countries around the world as well,
there are many kinds of seeds or seed heads that stick to the furs
of an animal and on clothing of human beings when the seeds are dried.
I tried to find English words for these seeds and found out a term
"hitchhiker seeds." What a sweat name!!
I'm not sure if this term is commonly used
but today's post is about this hitchhiker seeds.
In Japan, there are various kinds of hitchhiker seeds
and most of the time, I had called them hittshukimushi.
Here, they have a different kind of hittsukimushi,
and the name that they use for it is different as well.
The term they use is kuttsuki bon bon.
There's no way I can translate this.
It's something like "sticky pom pom" ???
The sound of it is sooooo cuuuuute!!
I hope you get the cuteness of the sound. ^0^
(anybody, tell me if there's a better way of translating this!!)
Anyways, I will upload the photo of this "sticky pom pom."
The flower itself is quite beautiful.
I love the color of it.
When it becomes more dry, it will become the sticky pom pom.
CUTE!!

We went to Yotsuba Cafe near Fukuchi Onsen today!!
Last time we visited the place was half a year ago!!
Yotsuba Cafe is now full of beautiful autumn colors!!
Everything we ordered including his hand dripped coffee were
awesome and delicious!!
The place is going to be covered in thick blankets of snow.
I don't think we can get to the place during winter.
We'll see ya next spring!!

We finally made it to the Shiroyama Park yesterday!!
Shiroyama Park is where Takayama castle used to stand.
The castle itself was destroyed when Takayama was under the
direct rule of the Edo Shogunate,
but the place is left as a park full of greens.
Shiroyama Park is full of plants and trees and they've turned to
beautiful autumn colors now.
It's a perfect walking course from the old town area
to the Shiroyama Park!!
The only problem is that we have to "beware of bears."
Actually, there was a notice from the city that
a bear had been spotted today at Shiroyama Park.
We are the ones intruding into their territory,
so all we could do is to make big noises as possible
and scare them away.
We certainly want to continue walking in the nature
and enjoy the seasonal scenery;
therefore, we shall ask politely if we could enter the park
and live in harmony with the wild lives!!
But, we are truly hoping there would be enough acorns for the bears
in the mountains before going into hibernation
to keep them away from coming to the town area.

乗鞍岳からの景色 the view from Mt. Norikura
Everyday, I peak from the window facing east
to see how Mr. Norikura's looking!!
On a rainy day like today,
not a sight of Mt. Norikura can be seen.
You probably won't even know
that such beautiful mountains are there behind the clouds
if you're just a tourist visiting Takayama for the first time.
The name Norikura is not given to a single mountain but it is a name given to
a whole range of mountains having several peaks.
One week ago, we traveled all the way to one of the highest peaks of Mr. Norikura!!
The sky was perfectly blue last Monday,
and the view of and from almost 2900 meters point was just amazing.
I will have to say that none of the photos show the
actual beauty of what we have actually seen
but I hope that you at least have the idea of what it's like up at Norikura.
