荘川そば buckwheat noodle of Shokawa

It's about 40 km drive southwestward to Shokawa from our place.

The altitude of Shokawa is about 800 m above sea level,
(which is about 400 m higher than the central part of Takayama)
and there are many ski runs nearby.

Shokawa is famous for Japanese buckwheat noodles!!

For the very first time, we visited Shokawa
and this time, we went to "Muroya" which serves
soba (buckwheat noodle) and tonkatsu (pork cutlet).

Typically, soba restaurants serve soba with tempura
but this particular soba restaurant that we went serves soba and pork cutlet
which we enjoyed a lot!!

We found many other soba restaurants nearby!!
Can't wait to challenge different places,
although it will be a tough drive from now on in snowy conditions.

荘川は40キロほど南西へ行ったところにあります。

高山の中心地よりも標高が400メートルも高く
荘川周辺にはたくさんのスキー場があります。

荘川は「そば」が有名なんです。

今回は
荘川そばとトンカツのお店「むろや」へ行ってきました。

そうなんです、天ぷらではなくトンカツです　＾＾

このコンビネーション、
意外に悪くないんです。
どちらもこだわりたっぷりで本当においしかったですよ。

周辺には他にもたくさんのそば屋さんがありました。
次回も楽しみです。
ただ、これからは雪道ドライブをがんばらなくては、、、（旦那さんが　笑）

お久しぶりの「白い高山」

カフェ青 cafe "Ao"

As soon as you enter the Sanmachi (old town) area,

there is a peaceful cafe called "Ao," on the left hand side of the street.

You will find a small sign that says "青" in a blue letter.

The entrance of the cafe is a liquor (sake) store 

and it doesn't look at all like a cafe so don't miss it!!

You will have to take off your shoes to enter the cafe

because all rooms are tatami spaces.

Choose whichever seat you like,

but believe me it will take you a while 

whether to sit at the far end where it's all quiet and homey

or to sit by the little beautiful courtyard. 

And another struggling time deciding what to have.

They have various Japanese confectioneries, macha parfait,

seasonal Swiss roll, and so forth.

This time, I chose apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and dark rum syrup

and my friend chose the macha parfait.

Cozy, beautiful and delicious
I guess I need nothing else!!

三町（古い町並み）に入ってすぐに
「カフェ青」があります。

青色の文字で書かれた看板がありますが、
その入り口は、酒店になっているので
よく見ていないと見逃してしまいます。

靴を脱ぎ、一段上がってカフェに入ります。

そして、好きな席を選びます。
でも、絶対に悩むんです。
奥の落ち着いた席にするか、
手前の中庭が望める席にするか、、、。

そして、もうひとつ悩んでしまうもの、
メニュー決めです。
和菓子、抹茶パフェ、季節のロールケーキ、、、
どれも魅力的なんです、ほんとうに。

悩みに悩んで、今回は
名前を忘れてしまいましたが、
アップルクランブル＆バニラアイスにダークラムをかけて頂く
魅惑の一品をチョイスしました。
友人は抹茶パフェです!!

美、うつくし
美味、うまし！（笑）
もう他にはなにもいりません。

いよいよ！！ it's coming!!

I had been a bit busy these days,
and I'm missing the "going of the autumn," sad, sad.

Yes!! it seems like autumn is actually leaving Takayama.

I'm seeing a "snow sign" on the weather forecast!!

It's coming.

The cold and fluffy one : )
They will start falling from the sky.

My son and daughter can't wait to play with you!!

バタバタとしていたら
「秋の終わり」を楽しむのを忘れてしまいそう。

そう、いよいよ秋も終わりです。

数日後の予報にに「雪マーク」がつきました！！

いよいよです。

ふわふわした冷たい「あの方」です。
空からいよいよ降ってきます。

娘も息子も一緒に遊ぶのを楽しみにしているよ。

純米酒 Junmai Sake

There are a lot to explain about
when talking about sake.

The sake we had tonight is
the "Junmai-ginjyo-shu (sake)" which is made purely from rice.
That means no alcohol has been added
and they've polished the rice to at least 60 percent of the whole grain.

I perhaps have to go on explain about the polishing of the rice
but I'll do that on my other post.

The pure rice sake (junmai-shu) tend to have a sweet and mild taste
and this one from Funasaka brewery is one of those.

We used both the "masu (the wooden cup)"
and the "ochoko (the tiny ceramic cup) to drink the sake.

Usually, the ochoko is used when the sake is warmed
but who cares, we enjoyed sipping and pouring the sake to each other!!

Actually we bought these ochokos at the antique shop in the old town.
It was great fun to choose a couple from the whole bunch!!

AND it was a lot of fun to actually drink the delicious sake using
these beautiful utensils!!

お酒は奥が深く
語りだすと
何時間も必要になります。

今日は「純米吟醸酒」をいただきました。

純米酒、
醸造酒、
米の精米歩合について、
語ることはたくさんあります。
それにはまた別の記事を書かないといけないですね。

今回は船坂酒造のものをいただきました。
純米酒は
味の特徴として
甘めに感じるものが多いのではないでしょうか。

今回は「枡」と「おちょこ」で味わいました。

おちょこは通常
熱燗で頂く場合に使うことが多いのでしょうが、
まぁいいか、
何度もついだり、つがれたり、
を楽しみましたよ。

この、おちょこたちは
以前、町並みの骨董屋で購入したものです。
たくさんあるおちょこの中から、
お気に入りのものを探す楽しさといったらありません。

そして、これらを使って実際にいただくお酒は
また格別なのでした。

日本昔話の景色 good old Japanese scenery

We went to the Hida Folk Village last week.

The leaves are beautifully colored
and the persimmon trees in the village adds spice to the scenery.

These are sceneries that appears in the
 "Nihon Mukashi Banashi" (Japanese Folktales), don't you think?

We enjoyed playing with toys from the old days,
and had fun feeding the carps, ducks and a swan.

Once you step inside this Hida Folk Village
it takes you right back to the good old days
when houses and architectural structures
 blended in perfectly with the nature.

It was a day with both rain and sun,
and we found a huge rainbow spreading behind the mountains!!
(I hope you see the rainbow on the 8th picture!!)
An awsome gift from the nature!!

先週、飛騨の里へ行ってきました。

里内はすっかり秋の色、
柿の木がまたいい雰囲気を出しています。

この景色、まるで「日本昔話」の世界に
飛び込んだみたい。

昔おもちゃで遊んでみたり、
鯉、かも、白鳥のエサやりを楽しみました。

一歩踏み込んだら
そこはまるで本当の村。
建物が全て自然に溶け込み、
まるで、昔にタイムスリップしたかのような感覚に陥ります。

この日は
雨が降ったり陽が出たりと忙しい日、
なんと山の後ろから大きな虹が出ていました。
（8番目の写真です。わかりますか）
自然からの嬉しい贈り物でしたー。

（ところで、真冬の飛騨の里はこんな感じです）

デュオコンサート（ＳＯＹにて） violin and piano duo concert at SOY

A "violin and piano duo concert" was held at
guest house & cafe SOY.

The soothing melodies of both the violin and the piano
blended in perfectly with the warm atmosphere of SOY
And soon, we were completely wrapped in a cozy blanket of their harmonies.

I had wanted to take my kids to such concert,
but at the same time, were afraid that they wouldn't be able to behave.

Thank you to SOY who gave us such wonderful opportunity

It would be wonderful to go to the "concert hall" to experience the
dynamic music,
BUT sitting back in a cozy chair with a homey atmosphere
listening to the beautiful harmony of a violin and a piano
was a precious experience second to none!!

バイオリンとピアノのデュオコンサートがありました。

暖かく落ち着いたSOYの空間に響く
バイオリンとピアノは格別で、
音のブランケットに包まれているような心地よい時間を
過ごさせていただきました。

以前から
子供たちも本物の音楽に触れる機会があればいいな、
コンサートに連れて行きたいけど、
静かにしていられるかな、と
考えておりました。

お誘いくださったSOYさんに感謝です。

ダイナミックな音が響き渡るコンサートホールで聴く音楽もいいですが、
座り心地のいい椅子にゆったりと座りながら
バイオリンとピアノの演奏に包まれる時間は
とても贅沢で貴重な経験でした。
