While we did our autumn walk,
my son bought me a cup of sake at one of my favorite brewery, yay!!
(I chose "daiginjo" the highest rank sake, ha-ha)
Kids had their cups of amazake (a sweet drink made from fermented rice).
I bought them yakitori (grilled chicken on a skewer) in return at
Shiroyama Park and enjoyed our 20,000 steps walk up and down the town.
Doesn't Lord Kanamori, the feudal lord who found Takayama,
look handsome in his beautiful autumn setting?
notes of "everyday little findings" from Takayama City, Gifu, Japan
Hi from Takayama
I'm Sanae. I have lived in Takayama for 4 and a half years starting Oct. 2014 till March 2019. I enjoyed living in such a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. Here is a blog that shares the happy times I had in Takayama.
My new place is Anjo, Aichi, but I'm too much in love with Takayama, I will continue adding some more infos about Takayama, plus I will be adding some updates about my new place as well.

Also, my life has been about "moving" everywhere!! Believe it or not, this was my 14th time to move and I thought there are a lot to share about my "moving life." There are some special things that I see and experience by living in different cities not just in Japan but in other countries as well!!
Cheers to new findings!!

2016② autumn colors 2016②
I did a long walk along the Higashiyama Walking Course
on the most beautiful day!!
Forgive me for not having enough time to write
explanations about this region,
but I wanted to make sure you
have the chance to enjoy the photos
while the scenery is still beautiful.

2016① autumn colors 2016 ①
Hey everyone!!
I thought autumn had just arrived,
but actually it is almost ending.
In fact, it snowed a bit this morning in Takayama.
But, we never forget to enjoy the most beautiful season!!
I will post a series of autumn colors that we have been enjoying.
The photos today are of Hida Folk Village at night!!
They're having a light up event.

柿、その後 persimmon, after 2 weeks
Oh dear, there came an enemy who's trying to suck all the
sweeeeet persimmon!!
Actually, he was so cute
so we observed him for a while.
We were observing him so up close
but he was so into sucking the sweet nectar of persimmon that
he just stayed there forever!!
Oh well, he wins!!
We decided to leave him alone.
The next day,
we decided to sample one!!
The bee was right.
The persimmon was sooooo sweet and delicious!!
Who wants to come and try them?

It's November already!!
Can you believe it?
Take a walk through the town and you will find
persimmons hanging here and there.
Of course the persimmons are for eating, but
the orange color adds beauty to the dark tones of the wood frames of the houses.
In Japan, there are several types of persimmons.
Many can be eaten fresh and you will enjoy their sweetness
but some are sour and bitter that they cannot be eaten fresh.
However, after sun-drying them, they will become surprisingly sweet.
You should certainly try these dries persimmons as well!!
Last week my parents visited us and we bought some sour persimmons.
We are both drying the same persimmons here (Takayama) and
in Aichi prefecture where my parents live.
We can't wait to taste the outcome.
My parents live in a rather windy area but it is much warmer than Takayama.
Who's going to win the competition?

It's the harvest season for buckwheat ("soba")
and first soba (buckwheat noodles) are being served at
soba restaurants.
"First Soba festivals" are being held here and there
and we went to several of them!!
The photos below are those of Shokawa Soba Festival.
We were able to compare the wonderful soba from different restaurants.
It's autumn.
Mountains and leaves has become so beautiful.
Come and enjoy the delicious soba!!

Traveling Spoon
GREEN Cooking Studio,
where I work,
has officially become a host of
Traveling Spoon.
Traveling Spoon.
"What is Traveling Spoon
Traveling Spoon is like having a friend's mom
cook you a home cooked meal in every country you visit.
Traveling Spoon connects travelers with local,
vetted hosts to share the joy of a homemade meal in their home
and learn about their cultural an culinary traditions
passed down through generations."
- quoted from Traveling Spoon HP -
We are willing to share the good food and the beautiful culture
of Takayama through cooking experiences.
Learning the processes and getting to know the traditional seasonings
will help the participants understand more about what they are eating.
In addition, the delicateness of the flavor especially of
Japanese stock (dashi) is something you feel rather than taste.
We look forward to meeting and sharing these experiences
with as many people as possible!!
GREEN Cooking Studio(私の現在の職場)は
Traveling Spoon(トラベリングスプーン)の
