魚釣り fishing!

We are enjoying our life living near the ocean!!

Granpa & grandson (don't forget the grand daughter, too)

fishing together.  It was something we had wanted to do 

and of course we have done it before but 

yay it can happen quite easily without too much planning.

We even got a crab!!!

All the fish were really tiny but 

we had less than two hours

and it was great fun for us beginners.

Miss the mountains but the ocean is fun too!!

海に近いこの環境を満喫中です。

じいちゃんと孫で釣り！！

もちろん、今までも何度か連れて行ってもらいましたが、

明日行くか！と気軽にできるようになりました、イエイ。

カニまで捕れましたよ。

できませんが、、、）

魚たちは、チビスケばかりですが、

時間があまりない中で、上出来↗

初心者の私たちには最高のご褒美でした。

山が恋しいけど、海もいいね♪

刃物専門店「是ノ刃」 Cutlery Store Konoha

Let me introduce to you a shop that has newly opened
in the central area of Takayama, a cutlery store.
The store is called "Konoha" and they carry a whole selection of
knives and tools that are crafted in Japan.

All the knives and tools are presented beautifully in the shop
and it is so fun just to walk in and take a look at the selection.
A friendly couple will welcome you!!

Actually, the shop is quite close to the cooking studio that I had worked for
so they gave us an opportunity to learn about knives.
Even as a Japanese, there are too many things I need to learn
before explaining them to the customers when cooking or guiding.

I even got the most beautiful knife for myself before leaving Takayama.
Believe me, the knife really saved me while having the busiest time
packing and unpacking for the move.

Even on the busiest days, we get hungry, we need to eat,
which means we need to prepare meals.
As a mother, I didn't want to depend too much on ready-made meals
or fast food, so I tried as much to cook myself.
Having bought this wonderful knife, you can't believe, how
stress-free it was to prepare meals on such busy moments.
Actually, I enjoyed chopping everything and had a lot of fun cooking!!

The knife is still giving me joy chopping meat, leafy veggies, carrots, potatoes
even the hardest pumpkins!!

When you have a chance to walk around the central area of Takayama,
don't forget to visit Konoha, the cutlery store!

今年の1月末、高山の宮川朝市の裏（下三之町）に新しくオープンした
刃物専門店「是ノ刃（このは）」さんを紹介します。

美しく展示されています。とても気さくなご夫婦が
丁寧にご案内くださいますので、どうぞ勇気を出して＾＾

引っ越す前まで勤めていたグリーンクッキングスタジオのご近所様なのです！
最後の最後に、包丁のあれこれを教えていただき、
実際に自分用の包丁も一本購入してきました　＾＾
この包丁がどれだけ私を助けてくれたことか！！

家を丸っと空ける引っ越しは
想像を絶する作業量、、、
さらには、移動してからの荷解きと
新しい空間を作り出す作業にもまた同様に
時間とエネルギーのいる日々なのです。
すぐにお腹がすきます。
朝昼晩と食べなければなりません。
食べるということは調理をしなくてはいけません。
便利なお惣菜やファストフードにもお世話になるわけですが
引っ越し前後の2か月間、そればかりというわけにはいきません。
一応＾０＾母ですから、極力手作りで食事を作りたいな、と
思うわけですが、そんな時に、このよく切れる包丁が
どれだけ私を助けてくれたことでしょう。
むしろ楽しく毎日あれこれ切り刻んでました　笑

今でもそうです。
堅いカボチャだって切るのが楽しくなります。

中間試験 exam week

It's my daughter's exam week.

In municipal Junior High Schools in Japan
there are midterm exams and end-of-the-term exams.
The number of terms differs depending on the cities
and in her previous school in Takayama,
the school year was divided into 2 semesters,
now in Anjo, her school is divided into 3 semesters.

You move to another school,
the systems are quite different
and kids will have to adapt to the new curriculum.

And as I said,
this is now her exam week.
Since she is in her second year of the Junior High School,
teachers expect everyone to know how everything goes.

She is trying hard to prepare for the coming exam
but she told me she is a bit worried because
she doesn't know the trend of the exams if you know what I mean.
There are these certain tendencies to
what kind of questions teachers will give.

I guess it's another challenge for her.

This very well proves that test scores prove nothing.

Wishing the best of luck to my daughter!!

現在娘のテスト期間中（期末）です。

一言でテスト期間と言っても
中間テスト、期末テスト、そして学校によって
範囲の設定の仕方や、出題のし方も様々です。
例えば、娘が以前通っていた高山の学校は
現在中間テスト中、何故ならあちらでは前期・後期の
二期制を採用しているからです。

娘は中学２年生ですので、周囲のみんなにとっては
一年経験した後の、二年目のチャレンジです。
娘にとっては、新しい学校での初めての試験、
全く初めてに等しいチャレンジになるわけです。
この学校や、先生の傾向なども全くわかりません。
違う教科書を使用していた１年生の頃のおさらい問題も出るようです。

それでもテストはテスト、
これで成績が決まっていくわけです。

テストスコアなんて、
ただの数字よね、
子供たちのがんばりや実力を測るもっと有効な手段があればなぁ。

何はともあれ、がんばれ～☆

梅酒 plum wine

Up to the age of 18, I had spent my days with my parents.
After that, we lived apart.
We kind of believe that "moderate distance" is needed for
a good relationship, even as a family.
Right now, we're about 20-minute-drive from each other.
That's quite close!  What's going to happen now : )

But,
thanks to them, they brought us the most beautiful Japanese plums!!

We're going to prepare our own plum wine, and plum juice this year, yay!!

And what's special about this year's plum wine is
that we are using the alcohol from the local Kamisugi Brewery.
We haven't gotten the chance to visit the brewery yet,
we have to do that!!

The hardest part is that we have to wait for at least 3 months,
ideally a year, which is impossible : )

Can't wait!!

18歳以降、両親と離れて暮らしていた私ですが
今回の引っ越しで車で20分の距離にやってきたわけです。
親子であっても、適度な距離があることが「良い関係の秘訣」と考える私たち。
お互いにとっていいことなのか悪いことなのか
さぁ、この先どうなるでしょう　笑

そんな両親が、美しい青梅を持ってきてくれました♪　感謝です♪

自家製梅酒と梅ジュースを作ります！

そして、今年は安城にある神杉酒造のホワイトリカーを使用します。
まだ行けておりませんが、そのうちに酒造見学に出掛けなくては！

一番難しいのは、3か月以上（理想的には１年）待たないといけないことです。

う～ん、待てません。

公園、公園、公園 park, park, park

Here is what we looove about our new environment.

There are so many beautiful parks to enjoy
around our new place in Anjo City.
Each is not that big, but they are all so close by
and we are so thankful that we can visit these parks
every single day.

Do you remember early in 2016
I was talking about visiting the Mayor of Takayama
to tell him that we need more parks in Takayama?

my previous post about visiting the mayor

I mentioned that he listened carefully to what I said,
he really did pay attention
but my wish never came true in the past 3 years.

We did find places here and there, although not satisfied enough,
to enjoy picnics, to run around, to spend out in the sun
while we were in Takayama
but always thought we need more.

Having plenty of parks around is one of the aspects that made
the kids easy to make friends.
It will take quite a while for any children to visit his/her friends' house.
It's much, much easier to meet up at parks.
You can visit the park anytime you want
You can leave whatever time you wish.
You can just be there whenever you feel like it.
You may find your classmate.
You may find big guys.
You can play with younger kids.
You can meet adults.
You will find cute pets.
You don't have to bring anything.
You can play on the field.
You can swing.
You can slide.
You can make noise.
You can communicate!!

Park is a must.
Park is something we got to have every day.
Park is a place you play in.
Park is a place you meet.
Park is a place you get tired.
Park is a place you relax.
Park is a place you learn.

Even though we have left Takayama already.
We love the place too much!!
And we still wish there were more parks there,
tiny ones and huge ones!!

Trust me,
I am going to challenge the mayor again
even if I'm not a citizen anymore : )

It's my hope and it's my dream
for Takayama to have plenty of places to run around
for the kids to spend healthy lives physically and mentally!!

私たちの新しい環境でとても気に入っているところ
それは、近所に公園がたくさんあることです。

遠方から足を運ぶほどの公園ではありませんが
十分過ぎる広さと、十分過ぎる設備が整った
素敵な公園がたくさんあるのです。

以前、「高山の中心地に公園が少ない！！！」
とブログに載せたことがあります。

市長を訪ねた記事

市長は、話を親身に聞いてくださいましたが、
結局滞在期間中、新しく公園ができることはありませんでした。

子供がぱっと行ける身近な公園
そして、家族で一日過ごす公園
どちらも必要です！！！

公園と名の付く場所には出かけ
ピクニックをしたり、走り回ったり、
太陽の下で過ごす時間を一生懸命つくりました。
でも、まだ足りません！！

この新しい土地に子供たちが、すんなりと溶け込むことができたのは
公園のお陰と言っても過言ではありません。
家を行き来するほどの仲になるには、多少時間がかかります。
でも、公園があれば話は違います。
好きな時間に訪れればいい
用事があったら先に帰ればいい
気が向いた時に行けばいい
クラスメイトがいるかもしれない
年上の子と遊べるかもしれない
小さな子もいるかもしれない
大人も散歩している
ペットだっている
手ぶらでいけばいい
ブランコがある
すべり台がある
大きな声を出したってかまわない
何よりも人と接することができるのです。

公園は絶対に必要！！
公園て、毎日必要
公園は遊ぶ場所
公園は出会う場所
公園で疲れるほど遊ぶのは最高
公園はリラックスする場所
公園は学ぶ場所

高山のことが大好き
大自然があって、人々が温かい高山に焼きもちすら焼きます。
でもひとつ！！！
公園がもっと欲しい。

そうです。私たち、もう高山を離れています。
でも、再度チャレンジしたいなぁ。（めざせ市長室！？）
子供たちの心身の健康のために
やはり公園は必要不可欠なので！！

Do you remember my post about having a photo shooting at SOY
in Takayama?

We have to thank Mr. Sakaue, the photographer, again for
the most precious photos that he took for us
on our very last "interview lesson" at the Miyagawa Morning Market
right before leaving Takayama.

We spent the whole morning walking around the morning market
as usual, and he followed us and took the photos of the girls and boys
trying to talk in English with the tourists.

The tourists are always so nice to the kids
and all the kids enjoyed their challenge.
It is great to have photos of such precious moments!!

In my next post, I am going to introduce Mr. Sakaue's beautiful works.

海外からの観光客に一生懸命語りかけるキッズの姿を

とても感激しています。
