味噌ができました yay, our miso is ready!

Does any of you remember
we prepared our miso a year ago.
Miso, our own fermented soybean paste,
is finally done!!

It is actually soooo delicious!!
No wonder a lot of people started
making their homemade miso again.

昨年の2月、
学校のイベントで味噌作りをさせてもらったのを
覚えていらっしゃいますか。

1年間、放っておいただけなのに
とってもおいしく仕上がってくれました。
（もちろん、「こうじや」さんの材料のお陰ですね　笑）
多くのみなさんが自家製味噌を作るわけだ！

立派なつらら huge icicles

Whenever I find huge icicles,
I just cannot resist breaking them,
cannot resist throwing things at them.
Is it just me?

We can find a lot of
"natural icicle arts" after freezing mornings.

立派なつららを見つける度
未だに気になって仕方のない私です。
大人なのに、、、
大人なのに、その辺に転がっている氷のかけらを
拾ってつららに向かって投げたくなるわけです。
私だけなのかしら。

寒～い朝、散歩をすると
いたるところで発見、つららアート♪

今朝の二人 kids this morning

Yep, this is the
very regular
very normal
winter scenery of Takayama!!

本日はさすがに除雪車が出動
冬の高山らしい景色になりました。

my 10-year-old and his group heading to school
(he has his ski class again today)
小さく見えるのが、１０歳息子の通学班
（今日もスキー教室です）

And my 13-year-old
I feel so sorry for her having to wear a skirt on such day as well.
(one of the many regulations that I'm against...
oops... I should stay quiet about it)
そしてうちの中学生
こんな雪の日も、スカートで登校します、、、気の毒。

There are ski classes at local elementary schools.
He carries his own skis to school.
月曜日は小学校のスキー教室でした。
自分で板を担いで登校します。

ニホンカモシカ Japanese serow

I'm not sure if you are familiar with an animal called serow.
In Japan, we have Japanese serow that is a nationally protected species.

Until I came to Takayama, I had never seen them,
just in books or on TV programs.
However, ever since we started living here
we encounter Japanese serow quite a few times.

In fact, in the past three days, I have met three of them!!
Isn't it fun?

I wasn't quick enough to take photos of them, but trust me,
just walk a little near the mountains,
I mean it doesn't even have to be the mountains,
just up in the hills where there are a lot of trees around you
and observe carefully, you may see them if you are lucky.

I was talking about it with my daughter
and she said casually sounding as though it was nothing special,
that she sees them almost every week at the backyard of her school!!
Wow.

It is actually very special!!!
Aren't we lucky?

I really want to take some photo of them before I leave Takayama.

高山に来るまで「ニホンカモシカ」は図鑑の中か
テレビでしか見たことがありませんでした。

ですが、高山で生活していると
かなりの頻度で彼らに遭遇するのです。
本当に天然記念物なの？と思ってしまうくらい
よく出会います。

ここ数日間でなんと３頭のニホンカモシカに出会いました。
なんだかとっても慣れた感じで、こちらが驚いて
ハッという顔をしてしまっても、
じーーーっと興味深そうにこちらを見つめ返してきます 笑

結構長い時間見つめ合っていたのに
さすがに写真は撮れませんでした、、、
うーーーーん、悔しい。

山の中へ入っていかなくてもいいんです、
そこそこ木が生えている丘を散歩していれば
遭遇できるかもしれません。

興奮気味に、娘にニホンカモシカの話をしていたら
「え？学校で毎週見るよ」って普通に返事が来ました。

そうなのそうなの？それってとっても特別なことなのよ。

高山を去る前に、ニホンカモシカくんの写真が撮りたいなぁ
と思う私なのでした。
